10 Things That Happen When You Surrender to The Universe

Updated: Mar 20

You cannot fight with, or control, the Universe. Be it in the form of a relationship or success. Even with a ‘fail-proof’ plan, life will never turn out to be as you wish. The tighter you grip the Universe, like a fistful of water, the more it escapes you. You cannot control people, places, events, or circumstances.

Overthinking causes anxiety, stress, and fear. After many sleepless nights, overthinking a million ways out, you still find yourself in the sticky mess that is anxiety.

As you start to loosen your fist, you begin to see the magic in ‘bad’ things as well. I know it’s hard. Especially when you have invested your energy in something for years or even decades. It hurts when our plans fall apart – we grieve, hopes are shattered, and dreams get crushed.

But the Universe has its hidden plan that no one can understand beforehand. Accepting the present and letting go of the past are the two secrets that can transform your life. But it never happens without trust.

Here are ten of the things that happen when you surrender to the Universe...

Deepak Chopra said that "In our willingness to step into the unknown, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the Universe."

Once you start trusting the Universe, these magical things start to happen:

1. Serenity exudes from your BEing

Lao Tzu said that “To the mind that is still, the whole Universe surrenders.”

I used to overthink a lot. Despite this, after many losses, I realised:

Since then, life has become significantly easier: It flows.

My mantra is to do my best and leave the rest.

Anxiety had become our nature. But if we can accept even the unwanted things, worry becomes a stranger.

You can’t control a late taxi or a frustrated client.

Surrender releases me from my control. And hands over my mental burdens to life.

Releasing worry makes space for serenity.

Once you start trusting the Universe you exude bliss. It is because they stop worrying about what will happen. You become absorbed in your calling in a state of presence.

Once, someone asked Confucius, “Why are you the most intelligent person on the Earth?” He replied, “Because I know I can’t know enough.”

Our minds think we know. But do we?

When unpredictability hits, we lose our balance.

Paradoxically, it is foolishness that makes us so sure of things. People live on ‘Mount Stupid.’ Wisdom knows nothing is sure.

Our limited minds can never grasp the meaning of unfavourable situations, heartbreaks, or why we sometimes feel like death.

But the Universe is intelligent and knows what lessons we need. It keeps sending them to us until we learn.

Once we trust the Universe, we align with its greater wisdomOur understanding expands, or rather, ceases to contract. This understanding leads to deeper insights into life.

3. You are out of the blame game

Did you fail your exams? Your appraisal didn’t happen as you wished? Your ex married someone else.

Every unfortunate incident is a step toward understanding your Self better.

You blame others because you believe others did something terrible to you. But when you trust the Universe, even those people become your teachers.

You start to look at situations from a different perspective.

We often realise that the best things that happened to us suffocated us at the time when they were happening. The more we realise this, the more trust happens, which helps you move beyond conflict and drama and lets you rest in your Self.

4. The Universe opens its gate of infinite wisdom

Trusting the Universe opens you to the deep ‘secrets’ of life.

It is an intuitive knowing that the Universe possesses and shares readily with you during meditation.

Your surrender makes you intimately one with the process that is life. When you open yourself to the Universe, you realise you’ve always been guided by it.

When you sincerely accept that you can’t know enough, the Universe opens its gateway of secrets to let you in. You merge into Universal Consciousness and true wisdom.

Total trust may mean you are already on your path to awareness and spiritual awakening.

5. You break the repetitive patterns of your life

We love predictability. That is why our set routines make us feel safe and in control.

But as soon as something happens out of place, stress rears its ugly head.

The truth is, we don’t get frustrated in life. We get frustrated when life does not go our way.

But when you trust the process, you remain joyful, irrespective of the situation. It breaks your lifelong cyclic pattern of joy and misery.

The more you trust, the more ‘adverse’ situations become powerless over you. You remain anchored in endless joy.

6. You become innocent like a child

It is easy to learn manipulation tactics or power body language. However, it is impossible to learn how to be innocent. Innocence comes naturally. It comes when we lose our attachment to identities: Our ego – our persona.

A baby trusts as its natural state. We were born as love. Fear is what we learn.

But we adults think that we have to fend for ourselves. We believe that we have to fight for ourselves and hustle in order to survive. This is not the case.

In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.”

It is a myth that surrender means not doing anything, not even for our own survival.

As humans, we have a responsibility towards ourselves and the people who are dependent on us.

But we take ourselves way too seriously.

Life breaks this stubbornness and arrogance. Life makes us humble.

There is only a limit to what we can do. Beyond it, we have to let go. You then experience limitless possibility.

The more you let go, the more trust develops. The more trust happens, the more surrender to the outcome happens.

A hundred percent surrender means the total dissolution of the ego. Your anxiety is inversely proportional to your degree of surrender. With no attachment, you merge into life. Life flows through you.

This wisdom allows you to enjoy life like a child: Laugh and cry like a child. Negative thinking, tears, and sadness do not cling as they used to earlier — crazy laughter echoes from your belly. Like a child, you are renewed each day.

7. Gratitude overflows

When you are full of joy, you exude gratitude: Have an attitude of gratitude.

You touch everything with love and gratitude when you are aligned with life.

Everything has a purpose. Everything becomes magical, even a fight with a partner or a regular morning walk in Nature.

You draw happiness from the simplest acts. Be it watching a squirrel running on trees or the breeze touching your face.

You feel interconnectedness with every BEing.

Humility becomes your second nature — tears of love and gratitude overflow.

8. Your spiritual growth skyrockets

The Universe is always pulling you towards your divine Self.

Hard times are not a curse: They open you to see what you couldn’t see before. Each challenging situation breaks your previous beliefs and opens your heart to possibility.

9. You inspire others toward their greatness

When you place trust in the Universe, it works on your behalf. It has your back.

After you unload all your tensions, you can enjoy life thoroughly.

Your carefree and joyful nature attracts people.

When you trust the Universe, you become a channel of pure life, nourishing others. You see them as their Highest Self until they do too.

It surprises me how many people benefit when you are actually in alignment: You nourish, and they flourish.

It may happen even without you recognising it or trying to help.

You become a watering can overflowing with care and joy, silently changing the lives of others with your exuberant presence and kind words.

You inspire those running in illusions. You become an answer to their existential crisis. The option of living carefree surprises them. They start to realise that suffering is optional and that there is another way: A peaceful and joyful life and way of living.

They start to recognise that life does not have to be complicated.

10. Miracles start to happen routinely

You start to notice synchronicities that you hadn’t noticed before.

Your prayers are answered.

You get unexpected help at the exact time when you need it. You meet awesome people at the right time. You get the exact explanations that you are looking for.

Trusting the Universe may mean trusting certain other people. Remember that the Universe always works through people.

Your trust allows the Universe to gift you with the right things at the right moment.

Final thoughts

Your inner BEing knows it is not unsupported. You never feel alone.

A controlling mind can never trust the unseen Universe. But a soft, sensitive, and innocent heart can.

Nobody can create innocence. But you can start to shed your logical mind when it comes to life's flow.

The more the analytical, overintellectualising mind is dropped, the more the heart is nourished. A nourished heart can trust and see what can’t be seen and appreciate love and connection. Open your heart and you will dive into the mysteries of the Universe.

Namaste.

Sending you love, light, and blessings brothers.
