Billionaires Need Spirituality More Than Anyone

Updated: Mar 21

Money alone will never make you full of joy. I have met several billionaires and they have three things in common: They are lonely; They are suspicious of everyone’s motives (understandably); They love their cash and they are terrified of losing it as it may be all they really have. Money defines them. Their thirst for it is unquenchable. How can enough be enough for the man for whom enough is never enough? Seeking riches outside of your self is a state of lack, and that simply attracts more lack and struggle.

Money, accolades, and material possessions alone will only bring a very transient happiness - if at all - usually just for a few minutes after receiving them. They are like drugs.

When you are full of the above positive core values, such as joy, you are much more likely to be truly abundant in all areas of your life and your life will be in balance and in harmony: And you will live in a constant state of joy. Otherwise you may be taking your billions to your grave, alone, dead, and empty. Abundance comes from who you are BEing.

The diagram below shows the overlap in the Venn diagram of material wealth and spiritual awakening. Spiritual awakening always brings joy. Material wealth only brings joy if it is combined with spiritual awakening. Otherwise it is merely transient happiness, if at all.

The blue areas (including the overlap) represent spiritual awakening and joy. Material wealth (the green area) only produces joy if it combined with spiritual maturity. Otherwise it only brings a fleeting transient happiness (green area, excluding the overlap). You can have joy without material wealth: But you can’t have joy if you have material wealth but you haven’t done the inner work on your Self.

But don’t just take Bronnie Ware’s study and my words for it. Steve Jobs, the billionaire head of Apple, said prior to his death “In the end, my wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to. At this moment, lying on my bed and recalling my life, I realise that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in have paled and become meaningless in the face of my death.”

On joy, Jobs said that “However, aside from work, I have little joy.” He lived most of his life in the green area of rhe Venn diagram above.

Steve Jobs was spiritual towards the end of his life. He went into the overlap in the Venn diagram above, where the blue overlays the green. He had a late quest for joy. As a result of his awakening he made sure that every guest at his funeral received a copy of the ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ by Paramahansa Yogananda, a deeply spiritual text. Steve Jobs died with a sense of awe as a result of finding joy. His last words were “Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.” What will be yours?

Andrew Carnegie said that “The man who dies rich dies disgraced.”

Albert Camus, the Existential philosopher, wrote that “A life, whose purpose is money, is death.”

Bob Marley said “Money is numbers and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for happiness will never end.”

If we look at Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of Needs’ there are five levels. Material wealth is only the second level: Only the second rung on a five step ladder. Spiritual maturity is level five! This is the highest level of meeting our needs and the pinnacle of a successful spiritual life and Self-actualisation. This is where you have access to infinite creativity, limitless inner potential, and your life has deep meaning and purpose.

It’s your choice to either take the stairway to heaven by working on your Self spiritually and choosing joy, or taking the express train to misery through wealth without spiritual awakening and chasing transient happiness like a dog without a bone.

Why would anyone want to be stuck at ego level and waste their life in self-addiction over living in the infinite possibility of the true meaning and purpose of their life?

Your natural state is spiritual ecstasy. The reason you don’t feel it all the time is because you keep leaving it. You won’t find bliss in a bank account unless you are spiritually awake.

You should use your life to do something truly great. The meaning of your life is that you are in a God-realised state with a divine purpose, but instead of realising that you are lost in your mind and negative thinking. We need to wake up the world: Are you in?

Namaste.

Sending you love, light, and blessings brothers.

Olly
