'The Let Them Theory' by Mel Robbins, which is in my 'Suggested Reading List' is a step-by-step guide on how to stop letting other people's opinions, drama, and judgement impact your life.
Two simple words, "Let Them", will set you free from the exhausting cycle of trying to manage everything and everyone around you. It’s time to build a life where you come first—your dreams, your peace, your joy.
Are you familiar with the “Let Them” theory? The more I grow the more I am okay with accepting the “Let Them” in my own life and relationships. This is something that took me a very long time to learn.
I used to tolerate a lot because I didn't want to lose people, be abandoned, I wanted to 'fix people', or I wanted to 'people-please.' But I learned the hard way if they were really my people they would never treat me like that.
Don't make the mistake of being so understanding and forgiving that you overlook the fact that you're being repeatedly disrespected and abused.

'Let Them' by Mel Robbins:
Let them be upset.
Let them judge you.
Let them misunderstand you.
Let them gossip about you,
Let them ignore you.
Let them be miserable.
Let them be full of hatred.
Let them be "right" in their little world.
Let them doubt you.
Let them not like you.
Let them not speak to you.
Let them run your name in the ground.
Let them ruin themselves.
Let them make you out to be the villain when they are the persecutor.
Whatever it is that people want to say about you, let them!
Kindly step aside and LET THEM.
The hard truth is they know how much they are hurting you. And they just simply don't care. Or they are doing it deliberately to hurt you. They did it knowing it could cause them to lose you. And they did it anyway. People who truly love you care about how they make you feel. They accept you exactly as you are. The end. Let the others go.
There will be people who would rather lose you than be honest about what they've done to you. Let them go.
The lack of respect was the closure. The lack of apology was the closure. The lack of care was the closure. The lack of acountability was the closure. The lack of honesty was the closure. The deviousness was the closure. The malevolence was the closure. Let them go.
Access to you is a privilege they have proven they can’t be trusted with. Don't give them any access to you. Let them go.

It’s taken me a long time to get here. Sleepless nights, countless tears, managing a range of emotions filled with anger, disappointment, confusion and deep hurt. Lots of self reflection, self-preservation, deep prayer and seeking wisdom from those much wiser than me.

You are in control of all of that.
How frequently we see a frightened human being determined to depend completely upon a stronger person for guidance and protection. This weak one, failing to meet life's responsibilities with his or her own resources, never grows up. Disillusionment and helplessness are his or her lot. In time all his or her protectors either flee or die, and he or she is once more left alone, feeling afraid, useless, and full of self-loathing. The only antidote to this would have been service to others, which they never chose. But that's not your problem.
Hold tight to what you can control and release your grip on what you can’t control.
The first half of the equation is 'Let them.' The second half is where you take control.
