There is Only One Unforgivable Sin

Jesus said that there is only one unforgivable sin. But what is it? Jesus says in Matthew 12:31–32 “Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” But what does this mean?
At the core of Christian theology lies God’s infinite capacity for forgiveness. An infinitely powerful source would of course be all-forgiving. Even the most heinous acts can be forgiven if one repents sincerely. But what does this all mean in spiritual terms? What is the Holy Spirit? And what does the one unforgivable sin mean?

What's the one unforgivable sin?
The Holy Spirit is the vehicle for conscious contact with our Higher Power. It's like a smartphone to God. It's the vehicle of prayer and meditation that increases our conscious contact with whatever our conception of God is. It is in practising this daily that we receive divine inspiration and intuition about who we are BEing and therefore what we are doing. So, in these terms the only unforgivable sin is to refuse this process of becoming your Higher Self - who you were meant to be - in alignment with your higher purpose.
Ryan Holiday, the author of 'The Obstacle is The Way', which is in my 'Suggested Reading List' that “A man’s job is to make the world a better place to live in, so far as he is able and to attend to his own soul.”
The Pharisees were religious leaders who outwardly projected an image of holiness, taking pride in their strict adherence to the laws and religious rituals. At the same time, their interactions with others, especially those they deemed 'sinners,' were often marked by judgment rather than compassion. Jesus saw through this facade and exposed their hypocrisy: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy, greed and wickedness.” (Matthew 23:27–28)
The Pharisees focused heavily on external human rules while neglecting the inner transformation that true devotion demands. While cloaked in religiosity they lacked the essence of a spiritual life: Love.
They did not embody any of 'the fruits' of the Holy Spirit, which are the qualities displayed by someone in complete alignment with God’s will: Someone living from their heart and soul instead of their ego.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22–23)
Yet, true goodness or righteousness, as Jesus taught, isn’t about external appearances but it is an inner phenomenon — aligning our hearts, actions, and motives with a sincere commitment to live out what we preach.
“These people (Pharisees) honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” (Matthew 15:8)
We create a block against God’s grace by clinging to an ego-driven self-image. It is all born of pride.
The Pharisees hardened their hearts and blocked God’s grace — not because God was unwilling to forgive them, but because they would not allow their ego to die in the process and open themselves up to love and compassion. Love and compassion are the language of the soul. Hate and fear, both the language of the ego, block the pathway to spiritual transformation.
As Lao Tzu wrote "When I let go of who I am (ego), I become what I could be (your Higher Self)." Spirituality is all about who you are BEing. There is a light to your BEing.
Oscar Wilde wrote “Every sinner has a future, and every saint has a past.” This is one of the most powerful statements I have ever come across. It not only beautifully reflects the transformative potential within each of us but also underscores the importance of focusing on how we respond to life right now in the present moment. Always remember, it is well with your soul. This is the path to Self-realisation. The whole purpose of one’s life is Self-realisation.
The only sin, therefore, is to not let go of your ego and to block your spiritual Enlightenment. In life, go large, and that means to be compassionate and to be unconditionally loving.
Namaste.
