Ultimate Power

Ernest Holmes wrote that "There is but one ultimate Power. This Power is to each one what he is to it." This is a question of who you are BEing.


Most of us have struggled all of our life trying to control the uncontrollable, believing that the right combination of actions would guarantee the outcomes we desired. This is ego.


None of us has ever had ultimate power except over our own thoughts, attitudes, and behaviour; yet until we entered healing and recovery, we didn’t understand or accept this reality. And, on occasion, we still fail to believe it.


We are learning that we can’t force open a closed door, nor can we make a loved one live up to our expectations. We can, however, learn to trust our Higher Power’s ultimate authority.


Your ultimate power


In time we will see that our wellbeing is guaranteed when we let go of our need to control.


A moment’s reflection will offer us ample evidence that God will orchestrate our life.


Many of the times we were in pain were the result of our ego’s unwillingness to trust God’s power.


Psalm 46:10 reminds us "Be still and know I am God."


Don't forget the equation:


Man minus Mind = God


Remember that today will go smoothly if you remember that God is in charge, rather than you. As it says on page 84 of the 'Big Book' "We will suddenly realise that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves".


Sometimes, we expect so much so fast that we become nervous wrecks. Expecting answers for tomorrow's or next week's problem is not living today.


If we have a problem today, turn the problem over to our Higher Power for an answer and practice patience with the future.


Can I work on just today's problem? Yes you can.


When faced with adversity in life, we often become anxious, fearful, doubtful, confused, and sometimes even angry. When any of these qualities are present, it is not because of the difficult situation we face; rather, it is because of our lack of Faith and our lack of confidence in a Higher Power.


Check where you stand today, and may you have the Grace to stand strong in Faith today.


As Dr Wayne Dyer wrote "If you knew who walked beside you at all times, on the path that you have chosen, you could never experience fear or doubt again."


Pray that you may accept every task as a challenge. You cannot fail when your Higher Power is with you.


Carlo Carretto wrote "Don’t try to reach God with your understanding; that is impossible. Reach him in love; that is possible."


Sometimes we get bogged down trying to figure out God. What is God’s will? How can we tell? How do we know we’re doing the right thing? Will it meet with God’s approval? We feel that if we wait until we are sure of God’s purpose and plans for us, we’ll never have answers to our questions.


The Creator of the Universe is beyond human understanding, but there is a simple way to gauge the acceptability of our thoughts, motives, and actions. We need ask ourselves only one question, Is it loving? We don’t have to worry about anything we do if the motive is love. A decision made with unconditionally loving concern can hardly go wrong. We can be confident of that. Simply ask in meditation "What would love do now?"


Be so confident in God's plan that you don't even get upset anymore when things don't go your way. Remember Ephesians 3:20 "God is going to give you more than you asked for."

Joseph Campbell, the author of the 'Hero's Journey' wrote "All the Gods, all the Heavens, All the Hells, are inside you." It is up to you to choose your path.


Being the best is not so much about overcoming the barriers other people place in front of you as it is about overcoming the barriers we place in front of ourselves.


Rumi wrote "The soul has been given its own ears to hear things that the mind doesn't understand."


You will answer hatred with love and wrongs against you with compassion. It may seem for a time that the wrongdoer wins and you lose, but the law of Truth and justice will always prevail. As the right-doer, you are backed with the Truth, and you will always rise above...


I see you, I hear you, I see the divine in you.


Speak in such a way that others love to listen to you: Listen in such a way that others love to speak to you.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences from Trinity College, Cambridge; a Master's Degree in Philosophy from Trinity College, Cambridge; a PhD Doctorate in Scientific Research from University College London (UCL); a Medical Degree (MD/MBBS) from The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, London and have been a doctor and reconstructive trauma and cancer surgeon in London for 20 years.
