What is Your Divine Purpose?

Updated: Jan 28

The elements of finding your divine purpose again are to create, love, remember, and serve.

Albert Einstein, the most famous scientist of all time, who was also a spiritual Master and believed in miracles, wrote in 'Living Philosophies' "Strange is our situation here upon Earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to a divine purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: That we are here for the sake of other men — above all for those upon whose smile and well-being our own happiness depends, for the countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day, I realise how much my outer and inner life is built upon the labours of people, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received and am still receiving."

Eckhart Tolle wrote "You are here to enable the divine purpose of the Universe to unfold. That is how important you are!"

It states in Proverbs 19:21 that "While we may have many plans and aspirations, it is God's purpose that ultimately prevails." When our own plans align with God's purpose for our lives, His purpose holds infinitely greater power and significance. This is how you develop Real Personal Power - think Yoda or Steve Jobs. What holds us back from. doing this? Our ego: It fights whenever we get close to being aligned with our Higher Power as it heralds the impending death of the ego. For my article on 'Real Personal Power' click here:

Creativity, play, love, connection to a Higher Power, joy, abundance - all of these are among our essential needs: They are called needs because we need them. They are as important to our soul as food and shelter are to our physical survival. If we've given up on our creative side because we're "not good enough to succeed," we may be denying our soul's full manifestation. We must determine what success means to each of us; we need not be limited by others' definitions or goals. Creative expression is its own reward. It is the voice of our soul. Your value is who you truly are.

This journey may not be easy at first, as the ego really struggles, but as they say in the Latin phrase "Per ardua ad astra" meaning "Through adversity to the stars" or "Through struggle to the stars" which is the official motto of the Royal Air Force. You can walk through the fire. It is the fire that purifies.

Ram Dass reminds us of these Truths in his brilliant song 'Opening Reimagined.'

Ram Dass and Liquid Bloom 'Opening Reimagined.'

What follows are quotes from the above Ram Dass song that relate to finding your divine purpose:

Behind all of the stuff, we will all be here together

These airwaves allow us the opportunity to cut through so much of our melodrama

And just meet inside our head together

And from this place we can explore where we are on this journey

What we do understand and what we don’t

How our minds are quieting and how our hearts are opening

The words that come through me may or may not be of use to

whoever you think you presently are

Only you in your heart know the validity of the things that are said

I don’t know

We need to have a lot of compassion at this point for our own predicament

Because if you’re going to see love in another being you must first see love in yourself

You must first see back into the place behind your body, behind your personality

Behind your senses, behind your thoughts

Back, way back in where we are pure awareness, pure consciousness, pure love

And when you rest in that place, then everyone you meet, you meet in that place

And the vibration that you emit when you are resting in that place resonates with every human being and you become the optimum environment for everybody you meet to experience that love in themselves

The only work we have to do is on ourselves, even when we’re doing all of our external actions, if they are not part of the purification on ourselves, we’ve lost the thread, we’ve gotten caught back in the illusion.

For what one man has to offer to another is his own being, and if that being is purified of all desire, of all attachment, that being is one of pure love and pure consciousness, and there is not one problem in the world today – starvation, overpopulation, integration, ecological pollution - that would not change immediately were the consciousness of mankind to change.

All of these problems exist because man’s mind defines who he thinks he is and who he thinks everyone else is, and what he thinks this life is all about

The minute he awakens, the minute he gets a little inkling of who he really is, the meaning of all those problems change, and the solutions become self-evident

And as Buddhists say, “We all are the Buddha, but also we are still much caught in the illusion.”

And during that time, we have our lives to live, and we have pollution to fight, we have to end paranoia in man’s relation to man

For each of these are right action to the extent that they are exercises in working on your own consciousness

An awakening person starts to realise that every moment of his day, every day of the week, every week of the month, every month of the year, every year of his life, is part of the gradual evolutionary process of awakening to his true BEing, and that no part of it is any more important than any other part

That everything that’s happened in our lives to this moment has been a part of it, and everything that will happen will be part of it, and that the moment on the subway is equally important as the moment in the cathedral

Both of them are moments for increasing the illusion, or awakening out of it

You know, for the first part of the journey, you avoid suffering, and you seek pleasure, you try to get high, and you want to bliss out

Then something interesting happens; you begin to see that every time you get high you come down, and you begin to be more interested in cleaning away the stuff that keeps you down than getting high again, because there’s no sense in getting high when you’d rather be high

To be high you have to clean away all the stuff, all the attachments

That becomes your major work once you understand

And at that point you begin to not dig suffering, you don’t seek it, but when it comes along you don’t avoid it or run away from it, because it’s the fire that purifies

And the Bodhisattva vow is to relieve suffering wherever you find it

That doesn’t mean you just help people become conscious if they want to become conscious, it means you relieve suffering everywhere

So, if the child falls and is crying, you help him up and make him feel better

You don’t demand that he understand about God and consciousness and your trip

Every human being you serve in the way you can serve

And to the extent that you’re conscious, you’re providing an environment where every individual you meet has the optimum chance to become conscious through his contact with you

I’ve just been in India for a year and a half, I’ve been with my guru

He sent me back to America with just three instructions

He said, “Love everyone, serve everyone, and remember God.”

Those are the only instructions for my whole life, there’s no other form

No other form.

All the rest I have to listen very carefully to hear how it is all supposed to be

I listen to hear the Divine plan, and all I have to do is remember to love everyone, serve everyone and remember God.

In the 12 step book 'Twelve and Twelve' it states that "Lack of anchorage to any permanent values, this blindness to the true purpose of our lives, produced another bad result. For just so long as we were convinced that we could live exclusively by our own individual strength and intelligence, for just that long was a working Faith in a Higher Power impossible. This was true even when we believed that God existed. We could actually have earnest religious beliefs which remained barren because we were still trying to play God ourselves. As long as we placed self-reliance first, a genuine reliance upon a Higher Power was out of the question. That basic ingredient of all humility, a desire to seek and do God's will, was missing."

You have to ask yourself the question,"Who am I ?" This investigation will lead in the end to the discovery of something within you which is behind the mind. Solve that great problem, and you will solve all other problems. You will have found your purpose. Pray that you may get your Self out of the way so that God's power may flow in.

Did you know that if you stay humble and seek to connect and discover yourself every day, it is a guarantee you are going to reach a new freedom, a new peace, abundance, and a new joy?

If we stay true to our course, seeking daily to learn, to serve, and to love, remembering who we are and what this life is all about, there are many beautiful things that will transform from not yet into a delightful, enchanting, effulgent, and cherished reality in our life.

We must rekindle the fire of Jung’s concept of individuation as a counter to the entrenched current digital trends of polarisation, alienation, drama, and conflict.

In the Bible in John 14:10 Jesus said "Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work." Jesus was humble. And yes he was the most influential, significant, wisest, and powerful human being that ever lived. We all have the potential of the Christ in us.

In James 4:8 Jesus says "Come close to God, and God will come close to you." In Philippians 4:6 it states “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” The key to increase your conscious contact with your Higher Power is to pray, express gratitude, and meditate twice per day.

When your Higher Power is your new director, everything is possible.

So, to find your divine purpose: Create; Love; Remember; and Serve.

Namaste.

Sending you love, light, and blessings brothers.
